Dry Gulch February 23,2009 Public Presentation
Overview and Documents
On February 23, 2009, the Boards of the Pagosa Area Water and Sanitation District and the San Juan
Water Conservancy District hosted a presentation to the public with
the results of months of work recalibrating the scope, scale and costs
of the Dry Gulch Project.
PAWSD
Special Projects Manager Sheila Berger, District consulting water
engineer Steve Harris of Harris Water Engineering, and Tom Pippin of
BBC Research and Consulting presented a lengthy power point
presentation describing the Project from A to Z. Karen Wessels,
President of the PAWSD Board, moderated a Question and Answer session
following the presentation.
The
project has been re-evaluated over the course of several months by a
team of technical experts and PAWSD staff. Components of the project
that were reconsidered and presented to the public were: growth rates,
planning horizon, future water demand, increased water treatment needs,
increased diversion capacity needs, reservoir size, public use of the
Dry Gulch reservoir, and capital investment and water resource fees.
A
sizeable crowd was in attendance, including several representatives of
state water agencies and federal representatives who traveled from
outside the area. The Question and Answer session was relatively brief
(approximately 1/2 hour), and although comment and question cards were
available, PAWSD staff did not receive additional comments or inquiries
following the presentation.
